INTRODUCTION AND COURSE STRUCTURE
This course is about inequality and how it is transmitted across the generations, how this transmission has the potential to shape economic opportunities, and the justification and role for public policy.
Three different and potentially inter-related income inequalities frame the course content: top end inequality, middle income inequality, and bottom end inequality and poverty.
Each type of inequality has different causes, different transmission mechanisms across generations, and different implications for public policies.
